The global refugee crisis, driven by political instability, conflicts, and climate change, is one of the most pressing challenges of our times. Malta’s position on the Central Mediterranean migration route makes the UNHCR committee highly relevant to the conference\u2019s discussions. In the UNHCR, delegates must advocate for refugee rights, address hosting challenges, and emphasise international cooperation for dignified migration. Designed as a Beginner committee, it offers an accessible entry point for new delegates while fostering engaging debates on state responsibility, humanitarian concerns, and the multifaceted impact of migration. UNHCR also highlights the dual role of maritime regions, where coastal states, often the first to receive refugees, play a critical role in addressing migration, security, and humanitarian challenges.<\/p>

The Red Sea region represents the crossroad of many human flows. Being at the mercy of armed groups, hostilities or environmental disasters, refugees and migrants in the region are facing substantial human rights violations, a critical socio-economic situation, and violences of all kind which prevent them from accessing basic goods and services, effective assistance and international and local aid. Delegates are thus expected to build on previous international agreements and legal frameworks to elaborate a resolution tackling the specific condition of refugees and migrants in the Red Sea, discussing the interconnection between the diverse security, humanitarian and environmental stakes affecting the region.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Currently in his gap year, Benjamin is working as a barista, doing musical theatre, attending MUNs across Europe and living life to the fullest. He was born in June of 2004, making him 20 years old and a gemini. Despite his young age, his list of MUN-experiences is quite extensive and so are his Spotify Playlists. Being a musical kid, you can hear him roaming the streets of Denmark screaming songs from some of his favourite musicals: Mean Girls and Mamma Mia. Benjamin is a social butterfly, and he is very excited to meet you all at MaltMUN 2025!<\/p>

Alix is a third-year student majoring in political sciences, European studies and International law. She has always been passionate about international relations and geopolitics, as reflected by her involvement in MUNs. Currently studying abroad, she is a travel and music enthusiast and will do everything to create the conditions for a safe and comfortable debate space while encouraging delegates to participate to their full capacities and foster stimulating debates!\u00a0<\/p>

Fun fact: Having roots in the south of France, her first and last love will always be the Mediterranean sea.<\/p>
