In times of complex intersection of environmental change, geopolitical tensions, and vulnerability of indigenous communities in the Arctic, the Arctic Council emerges as an essential intergovernmental forum to address growing regional concerns. As melting ice opens new maritime routes and exposes valuable natural resources, the strategic competition in the Arctic region led to increasing militarization and disputes over territorial claims, challenging a longstanding framework of peaceful cooperation. Simultaneously, indigenous communities face disproportionate impacts from climate change and external political pressures, threatening their cultural survival and traditional ways of life.<\/p>\n

In the Arctic Council, delegates must represent their positions as to choose which side of history they wish to be on, balancing both humanitarian and geopolitical concerns, and ensuring the future of the Arctic. Adding to this multidimensionality, delegates face additional challenges: the active participation of indigenous communities in the debate, and the Council\u2019s consensus-based decision-making, making this committee the right fit for great negotiators.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Luc\u00eda is from Spain and is currently working as a Policy Officer at an Embassy in Madrid. She is very passionate about geopolitics as well as social justice and inclusion, and she is extremely excited to get to explore their intersection at the Arctic Council. Luc\u00eda will make you feel like you have known her forever with her talkative personality and her accidental oversharing, and she will give her all to ensure that every delegate feels comfortable, supported, and encouraged to participate in the debate.<\/p>\n

Sebasti\u00e1n Cuevas is from Venezuela and has been involved in MUN for over 10 years. He is currently studying Political Science at the University of Salamanca, where he serves as President of MUNUSAL. His academic interests include public policy, history, economics, and data analysis, which he often brings into his approach to debate and research. With a long-standing passion for international affairs, Sebasti\u00e1n values critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving.
