PACE brings together 306 parliamentarians from 46 European countries to promote human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, while holding governments accountable for their commitments. A free, independent and plural media is a key part of any democratic society, informing the public and holding power to account. However, media systems are increasingly shaped by political influence, legal pressure, and the growing spread of disinformation. In a fragmented Europe, weaker coordination between states has made it harder to apply universally established protections, allowing for greater interference and state control of media systems. At the same time, a rise in misinformation has led to political apathy, a decline in public trust, and increased pressure on journalists, who are often facing both political and public attacks. This topic will aim to answer two important questions: How do we keep the media free and fair when governments or political actors try to influence it? And how can safeguards be upheld across Europe without undermining state sovereignty, while also preventing the spread of disinformation?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Hello everyone! I am Luis Poza, and I am honoured to introduce myself as your PACE Chair for MaltMUN 2026. Having graduated in Global Studies from the University of Salamanca, I remained one last year to complete my Master\u2019 s in EU Studies. Following two years on MUNUSAL\u2019s ExCom and my experience as a delegate at MaltMUN 2025, I am thrilled to return to this vibrant conference. I embody the perfect balance between academic discipline and a high social battery, so expect me to be the first in committee and the last to leave every social.<\/span><\/p>

I\u2019m a 24-year-old First-Class graduate in Media and Communications and Theatre Studies, and an MA Distinction graduate in Visual Communications, currently working as a Communications Officer, supporting grassroots groups and social movements to access funding and keep doing the work that matters. I have over eight years of debating and public speaking experience, including MEP and MUN, and have previously served as MaltMUN\u2019s PR Officer and Editor-in-Chief for the 2025 edition.
